A New Order?
Occasionally I’ll mention politics in these pages. Why so rare? Do I have no interest? The truth is that until I am allowed to vote I don’t feel that I have the right to get involved too much. Sometimes the idiots in charge push things too far (see previous post) and I cannot keep quiet. This post is an exception.
Although I have visited this country when it had different governments, since moving here for good I have only seen the Republicans in charge. What I have seen has done nothing to endear them to me. This week the public gave them the beating that they have long asked for. The purposeful erosion of the freedoms that this country is based upon has a chance to be curtailed. The public have spoken and now both the house of Representatives and the Senate have been wrestled from the Republican stronghold.
The phrase ‘whoever you vote for, government wins’ comes to mind. It might turn out that these Democrats are just another bunch of self-serving, uncaring bastards. Time will tell, but in the meantime, I couldn’t be happier about the result. Bush has had a kick in the teeth and the wind taken out of his sails.
Congratulations America. You have a chance to regain your place in the international community. Please don’t blow it. I would like to live in a country that isn’t hated by the majority of the World’s population.
