03/30/2003: "Hollywood Hypocrites"

Today I want to take a look at those in Hollywood who insist on making a big noise about the War with Iraq. While the very freedoms that they value and make huge amounts of money from are being protected, a number of them are abusing the priveliges of stardom to make their uneducated views known.
I thought that it would be interesting to take a look at the original list of so-called celeb's and see how many of them had swelled their bank accounts through war movies or films with violence. Just to make matters clear, I have nothing against a dose of pretend violence to while away an hour or two on a rainy day. Also, this investigation has nothing to do with my views on the current war. I just want to show what a bunch of hypocritical, lowlife, scumbags these overpayed retards are! Just because you spend your life pretending to be imaginary people, it does not give you any right to preach your views to me! We have properly elected officials who are payed to talk shit and they cannot agree with each other after all their years of experience. Hollywood......Shut the 'Peter Buck' up!
These are the stars that put their names to an open letter denouncing the war. Click here to read it. Click on the 'More' link below to see the results. This is going to take a while to complete and I'll do my best to ensure accuracy. If you can give some more enlightened information on the subject, please leave your comments. Complete listings of these peoples works would be outside the scope of this Blog but are easily found online. Some of the names are new to me so I'll put in comments for other ignorants like myself!

The final result of my labours?

Those that have made money through War and Violence = 74
Those with a clear conscience in this regard = 21
Musicians who should keep quiet = 6
Unknown to me = 1

You do the math and see how hypocritical these people are, for the most part! How dare they use their positions of fame to make ill-informed political statements? We should give serious thought to boycotting these pompous fools! There are others not included in this list who deserve just as much scorn, for instance: Sean Penn!

Mike Farrell, Co-Chair - M.A.S.H. The Americanization of Emily(War movie about Normandy invasion, he was left on the cutting room floor!)

Robert Greenwald, Co-Chair - Second rate director with a pretty poor list of movies to his name. I had only heard of a single one - Xanadu! Some violence in his films, but no wars.

Gillian Anderson - X-Files (often using a gun herself!)

Edward Asner - No war movies that I could find, but plenty of movies with violence (none of them seem to have been much good, judging by the reviews!) He has been in the biz for so long that a thorough search would take a week!

Rene Auberjonois - M.A.S.H The Patriot and more!

David Bale - A search on GOOGLE was of no help! I have no idea who this is!

Kim Basinger - For someone as famous as she is, she hasn't starred in very much! She was once a Bond girl with Sean Connery saving the World from an evil maniac though!

Ed Begley, Jr. - World War 2 - When Lions Roared (1994 TV Mini Series) amonst others.

Theo Bikel - Not overly famous but has been consistent in his views about war, civil rights and other causes. One wonders how a person so involved in civil rights could fail to notice Saddam killing his own people faster than any war could!

Barbara Bosson - Mostly Sci-Fi nonsense, she starred in Hostage Flight, a movie in which the passengers of a hijacked plane overthrew their evil captors.

Jackson Browne - A Musician

Peter Buck (REM) - Another musician. At least his name could be used in Cockney Rhyming slang - 'I couldn't give a Peter Buck!'

Diahann Carroll - A whole bunch of love stories, no violence.

Eugene J. Carroll, Jr. - Rear Adm. U.S. Navy (Ret.) enough said!

Kathleen Chalfant - Assorted minor movies with a little violence thrown in, probably to keep the audiences awake!

Don Cheadle - Hamburger Hill, Oceans Eleven, Swordfish and Fail Safe. All featuring violence, the first being composed of little else being a well known war movie!

Jill Clayburgh - Nothing of any note other than a movie about Cuba that ended up with an anti-Castro theme to it.

David Clennon - Go tell the Spartans, a movie that showed the Vietnam War with some realism.

Jack Coleman - Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Rebel without a fin. I kid you not! I just had to put these 2 movie names here because they are funny. There is a scattering of violence in this man's movies though most of it was in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle series!

Peter Coyote - Narrated a history of the Roman Empire and was in E.T. but is best known for his voice overs on a multitude of TV commercials. He has been in a number of thrillers with violent themes however.

Lindsay Crouse - Violence in a number of her thrillers.

Suzanne Cryer - As above but with a smaller list of films.

Matt Damon - Saving Private Ryan, The Bourne Identity........Need I go further? Yes! He played Loki in Dogma, an Angel bent on World destruction!

Dana Daurey - Only seems to do poor TV shows of little note.

Ambassador Jonathan Dean (U.S. Rep. to NATO Warsaw Pact)

Vincent D’Onofrio - Full Metal Jacket - nuff said.

David Duchovny - X-Files and Evolution, amonst others, he seems to be best at fighting evil aliens who are poised to take over the World. Maybe he should come back to reality!

Olympia Dukakis - Long standing activist on a number of fronts.

Charles S. Dutton - A number of minor roles with some in violent thrillers, though they were not very good ones!

Hector Elizondo - Some violent movies but little of interest unless you like Pretty Woman!

Cary Elwes - The closest to a war movie was Hot Shots! Nothing much to report on this one other than some violent thrillers.

Shelley Fabares - Just nice movies but did work with Elvis Presley a few times.

Mike Farrell - M.A.S.H. The Recruit, Bloody Sunday.

Mia Farrow - Nothing of much interest here.

Laurence Fishburne - Apocalypse Now, The Tuskagee Airmen, Deathwish 2, Kings of New York, The Matrix and not forgetting the Peewee's Playhouse series! Violent movies have done much to fill this fine actor's wallet.

Sean Patrick Flanery - Suicide Kings, Frank and Jesse etc. Another making money from violence.

Bonnie Franklin - Nothing of note.

John Fugelsang - Host of America's funniest home videos, his views are bound to change the World!

Jeananne Garafalo - Nothing of note here.

Larry Gelbart - Minor Producer who does have an unheard of movie under his belt that had nothing at all to do with war but was called ( I kid you not!): "Weapons of Mass Distraction". Now that is funny!

Melissa Gilbert - Apart from a series that made me want to smash the TV, Little house on the Prairie, she has done little of note here.

Danny Glover - War movies, violent thrillers, where would I start with him?

Elliott Gould - A Bridge too far, Oceans Eleven and many more! I cannot go without mentioning The Muppets take Manhatten!

Samaria Graham - TV actress of little note here.

Robert Greenwald - Director with some violence in his thrillers.

Robert Guillaume - Good Day To Die.

Paul Haggis - A TV writer whose most violent link is to Walker - Texas Ranger.

Robert David Hall - A number of violent films to his credit.

Ethan Hawke - Training Day amongst others.

Ken Howard - Nothing of much note.

Helen Hunt - Next of Kin is As Good As It Gets! A western where violence is payed back with more of the same.

Anjelica Huston - Not known for her violent roles, she has nevertheless been in a couple of violent movies.

LaTanya Richardson Jackson - Hangin' with the homeboys, U.S. Marshalls.

Samuel L. Jackson - Patriot Games, Pulp Fiction, XXX etc. The list goes on...........and on! Gratuitous violence has made this man a household name across the World. Die Hard, Rules of engagement, 187........Endless choices!

Jane Kaczmarek - Uncommon Valor.

Melina Kanakaredes - The Long Kiss Goodnight, 15 Minutes.

Casey Kasem - Lots of voices behind the cartoons, including: Challenge of the Super Friends - Attack of the Legion of Doom in which a bunch of super-heroes save the World from evil!

Mimi Kennedy - Flashfire.

Jessica Lange - Titus, Rob Roy etc.

Tea Leoni - Bad Boys.

Wendie Malick - Nothing of much note.

Camryn Manheim - Mercury Rising.

Marsha Mason - Heartbreak Ridge, Nick of Time.

Richard Masur - Fire Down Below, Shoot to Kill.

Dave Matthews - Musician who has revamped his one song to fill a multitude of albums that all sound the same. Who cares what he thinks?

Kent McCord - Preator 2, Return of the Living Dead 3, Conquest of the Earth, Accidental Meeting.

Robert Duncan McNeill - Infested in which the World is saved from nasty insects!

Mike Mills (REM) - Musician.....Yawn!

Janel Moloney - Desperate Measures.

Esai Morales - Bad Boys, Ultraviolent.............

Ed O'’Neill - Cruising, The Dogs of War, MacArthur-The Rebel General.

Chris Noth - Rough Riders.

Peter Onorati - Fire Birds.

Alexandra Paul - 8 Million Ways to Die.

Ambassador Edward Peck (former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq)

Seth Peterson - TV actor of little note.

CCH Pounder - Plenty of thrillers with a violent nature to them.

David Rabe - A writer who started out writing plays about Vietnam. Once he had established his name on the back of this war, he moved on to do nothing of much interest!

Alan Rachins - TV actor of little note.

Bonnie Raitt - Well known singer who should stick to melodies!

Carl Reiner - Old actor with many TV comedic roles. No Violence or War though.

Tim Robbins - Top Gun.

Steve Robinson, Sgt., U.S. Army (Ret.)

Mitch Ryan - Second rate actor of little significance.

Susan Sarandon - Children of Dune, Mussolini and I.

Jack Shanahan, Vice Adm. U.S. Navy (Ret.)

William Schallert - Torpedo Run.

Martin Sheen - Gettysburg, Apocalypse Now........etc.

Armin Shimerman - Slaughter of the Innocents, Death Warrant.

Gloria Steinem - Feminist of some reputation.

Marcia Strassman - Actress of little note.

Michael Stipe - Whining musician who should cheer up and make happy music!

Susan Sullivan - Small time TV actress.

Loretta Swit - Forest Warrior. She was also in a movie called "Beer" which must be a good thing!

Studs Terkel - Author and radio commentator. Once wrote a critically aclaimed book all about WW2 entitled 'The Good War'. Maybe senility has him in it's grips!

Lily Tomlin - Well known comedian (At least in the U.S.) she starred with Cher in 'Tea With Mussolini' about WW2 Italy.

Blair Underwood - Rules of Engagement, Just Cause, Dangerous Relations.

Dennis Weaver - More violence in his his Cowboy and War roles than you could ever hope to list here!

James Whitmore, Jr. - Purple Hearts, Jag, The Boys in Company C.

Alfre Woodard - Very little violence in her acting career!

Noah Wyle - A Few Good Men.

Peter Yarrow - A 'has-been' musician. He was the Peter in 'Peter, Paul and Mary'.

Howard Zinn - A radical historian who has made himself a buck or two with his books about war! This very war that he criticizes is going to make him more money and also protect the freedom of speech that he uses so eloquently and profitably!

Many thanks to the comment about Sean Patrick Flanery. I cant help thinking that these 'Celebs' have spent so little time in the real World that they have lost all sense of reality.

Sean Patrick Flanery also starred in Boondock Saints, a movie totally about the violent murder of other people. The whole movie Falnery's character is doing little more than creating bloodbaths. Just wanted to add it to the list. I was pretty shocked that he's on the list. Just goes to show how easily pussies in Hollywood forget what they've made money on...

This site is designed to be viewed at a resolution of 1024X768 or bigger. It will work perfectly well at smaller sizes but might cause you to do more scrolling and not see the pictures as intended. Ideally it should be viewed using Mozilla 1.3 (or later) or Internet Explorer 5 on the Mac. It should work under all of Netscape's browsers but I have only been able to test it on the latest version. It has also been tested on the latest versions of Opera and Internet Explorer (for Windows) and looks OK, if not exactly as designed! If you do have any problems, please let me know and I'll do my best to get things working. I have had a few comments over the months but in every case it turned out to be the fault of the visitor's browser!
I view the web exclusively using Mozilla. I find that it's implementation of the various standards is superior to the offerings from Microsoft etc. The effect that I have just added to this page does not work under IE (Windows version) at all. If you are using IE, the image behind this text should be perfectly aligned with the outside image, not only that, it should stay locked in position when you scroll. Even Netscape's latest version shows this properly, though I hasten to add that I am not a fan of the program. Mozilla is free and seems to be the most 'Standards-compliant' browser available right now. As you can see by the link on the right, I have thoroughly checked all the code for this page. Any strange display is down to poor browser design! Netscape is based upon an earlier version of Mozilla but it has been tweaked. I urge you to try Mozilla and you can get it Here! Go ahead, make my day! (If you are using IE for Windows, may I apologise for the strange look to this page. You'll have to get used to it as more of the pages are updated to the latest standards)
